Grassi & Casco - Audiovisual bounce-inducing effect: when sound congruence affects grouping in vision

Demos of Grassi & Casco: Audiovisual bounce-inducing effect: when sound congruence affects grouping in vision

In the current page you find the demos accompanying the paper "Audiovisual bounce-inducing effect: when sound congruence affects grouping in vision". The first two links address to the demos of Experiment 2 and 1a and are written in flash. However, for a high-fidelity view of the stimuli used in the experiments we suggest to download and run the MATLAB code in the third link. In any case, please use a decent audio equipment to see the demo (no pc speakers).
  1. Flash demo - sound onset at overlap. The bistable Metzger motion display is accompanied by no sound, the billiard sound, the firework sound and the water drop sound. In audiovisual displays, the sound onset is set in coincidence with the discs' overlap.
  2. Flash demo - sound onset before overlap. The bistable Metzger motion display is once again accompanied by no sound, the billiard sound, the firework sound and the water drop sound but sounds are switched on before the discs' overlap. If the refresh rate is set to 60-Hz the sounds' onset precedes of 200-ms the discs' overlap.
  3. Matlab code of demos [1] and [2]. To see the demos, unzip the file, launch MATLAB and move the MATLAB's working directory to the just unzipped folder (i.e., "grassicascodemos"). At the MATLAB prompt type "demo(1)" to see the demo #1 and "demo(2)" to see the demo #2. In each demo, displays are showed twice. In order to reproduce exactly the stimulus used in the study set the refresh rate to 100-Hz. The demos work with MATLAB 7.0 (or higher) and and are written with the Psychtoolbox 2.54.
